Coleg Sir Gar has an exciting opportunity for a Skills Champion to join the Inspiring Skills Excellence in Wales project on a temporary / secondment basis.
The post provides an exciting and challenging opportunity for a proactive and innovative person to champion vocational skills and lead on an exciting portfolio of competitions.
The role will contribute to developing a culture across colleges and training providers that delivers more than qualifications – it aims to develop world class skills, with experiences that build the confidence and life skills of individuals.
A priority for this post is to ensure a joined-up approach to sharing of good practices and expertise, contributing to raising the standards of teaching and learning across Wales and embedding Skills Competitions as a method of assessing the quality of provision.
Through capitalising on the creation of a Team Wales ethos we aim to raise standards and support the creation of a larger pool of highly talented individuals.
This role is pivotal to our vision for Skills Excellence through competition engagement and you will work closely with the Project Director and senior leadership teams across the education and training sector to explore opportunities and shape the future learning experience for all those who work and learn in the education and training sector.
About the Role
As a Skills Champion, the main purpose will be to:
- Be an advocate for skills excellence and take a lead role in promoting registrations across a range of skills competitions at a local, national and international level and engagement in Skills Competition Wales, ensuring increases in participation on an annual basis
- Take a lead role in collaborating with assigned stakeholders, supporting their needs at a strategic and operational level ensuring relationships are fostered and maintained.
- To manage a range of contracts and budgets associated with competition delivery and competitor support at local, national and international levels
- Identify the needs across education and training, providing support where required to meet international standards
The day to day role will see you engaging with a wide range of stakeholders as an advocate for skills excellence. You will support developing and shaping project wide initiatives, working with teachers and support staff across education and training, assessing and evaluating the impact of our work and become a regular at each of the colleges and providers in Wales. No two days are the same in this fast paced and dynamic project.
What you will need
To be successful in the role, you will need:
- Degree or equivalent Qualification
- Experience of project planning and implementation
- Experience of working in partnership with external and internal stakeholders
- Experience of contract and budget management
- Experience of event management and delivery
Whilst it is not essential, additional qualifications to demonstrate lifelong learning would be desired, alongside a good understanding of relevant issues in post 16 education.

Coleg Ceredigion was created in 1985 and became a corporate institution in 1993. The college merged with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David as a subsidiary company in 2014. The college has an annual turnover of £6m and employs around 180 staff.
