Here are a list of frequently asked questions from applicants at Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion

How long does the process take?

Our vacancies are normally advertised for approximately 10-14 days. Once the vacancy has closed, the selection panel normally begin the shortlisting process within 24 hours of the closing date and we aim to update you within 2 days to let you know if you have been shortlisted for interview, or not. You will then receive your interview invitation, most interviews usually take place approximately 7 days after your invitation, though the approximate interview date should be stated on the job advert. In total, the whole process takes approximately 21 days, however, whilst we aim to work within this timeframe, there are times where the process can take longer. If this is the case, we will contact you to let you know.

When do you request references?

We do not request references until you have accepted your offer and have completed part of your onboarding portal. If you have accepted an offer and completed your onboarding with us but would like us to hold off contacting your referees until you’ve spoken to them, please let us know as soon as possible.

I have a question about my application or a vacancy, who should I contact?

I can’t attend my interview, what can I do?

If you are unable to attend the date given, please contact us as soon as possible by replying to the invitation email, or phoning us on 01554 748000. Whilst we cannot guarantee that we can offer an alternative date, we will explore the availability of the interview panel to find a suitable alternative, if possible.

Do you have any tips for completing my application?

It is advised that you read the job description and person specification thoroughly prior to completing your application. All decisions regarding shortlisting are based on your application form and how you refer back to the job description and person specification. Coleg Sir Gar and Coleg Ceredigion will not make assumptions about you and your qualifications, therefore, it is important that you refer your application to the essential and desirable criteria, whilst also listing your qualifications on your application form.

Which language should I apply in?

You are welcome to apply for any vacancy in Welsh or English. Any applications made in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application made in English.

How do interviews work at Coleg Sir Gar & Coleg Ceredigion?

All interviews at The College will require candidates to have a formal interview, this is normally conducted with the line manager, a member of our HR team, and a member of the team that the vacancy is from.

If you are applying for a lecturing position, you will usually be required to deliver a 15-20 minute microteach, alongside a formal interview as part of the process. For your microteach, you will be asked to deliver a lesson on a topic given to you, to a small group of learners. We will give you a summary of the learner ability levels, along with full access to our classroom equipment and technology.

Can I get feedback on my application/interview?

Yes, we are always happy to provide feedback on all applications and/or interviews. If you would like feedback for any stage of your application, please email HRrecruitment@colegsirgar.ac.uk and one of the team will be in touch with you.

I have feedback about the recruitment process, who should I give this to?

Coleg Sir Gar & Coleg Ceredigion value feedback from all candidates regarding their experience throughout the process. When will I hear back to find out if I have been shortlisted or not?

You will be notified via email on the outcome of your application whether you have been shortlisted or not. We aim to do this within 2 days of the closing date, however, if there is a delay and it takes longer than 2 days, we will email you to keep you updated.

Do you have free parking available at campuses?

Yes, all of our campuses have free parking available on site.

Will I need a DBS check?

Yes, all roles within The College require you to have an enhanced DBS check and some roles also require you to have an Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration. If you are successful, we will organise these with you through your onboarding process so there is no need to do these in advance.

I've been offered the role, when do you want me to start?

We will organise your start date in line with your notice period from your current role and/or when your pre-employment checks are complete. We will be in contact with you throughout your onboarding process, so this will be arranged and agreed with you.
